The first of many stories of why I won't make Mother of the Year in 2011....
So what did I do?? Well, it was great mostly, I ran to the store earlier to pick a few things up needed to help make our dinner of which I was making extra for my sister in law Amy and her family.
I had the chicken started in the crock pot, so it was done by early afternoon. That was fine. I got my kids to school on time this morning, no problem there.
So I made up three pans of chicken enchiladas one of which was going to my sister in laws family. It took a while to assemble all three pans and get it all ready. I covered all three pans with foil. Still going good.
Gathered the few things that I needed to take with me to drop off at Amy's house for their dinner, and then grabbed Ethan and we left. Got to Amy's house, see that my in laws are there, which happen to be her parents. And they answered the door and Grandpa was holding the baby who is sick. And Amy was up taking a nap. That's fine, she was tired and needed some extra sleep.
So I lay the food on the the counter. And I say bye and leave.
**** Okay, here's where it starts *****
I drive to the school which isn't too far away, but not a straight shot because of a river that I have to drive over. I get to the school and no sign of my kids outside. I think okay. They must be in the gym because that's where they normally meet me at when we have practice. But today I had to take the girls home because they had achievement days. When I discovered that they weren't in the gym waiting for me, I then walk all over the building. No signs of them anywhere. I go to the front desk and have the kids paged to the front. I waited. and waited. Still no kids.
Now this whole time I'm running around I left my sleeping 3 year old in the car in the parking lot. I spent 20 minutes in the school looking for this crazy kids of mine. And then ... the thought hit me!!!
Maybe they are at Amy's house. Since that's where they normally walk to if we don't have practice to go to. So I run to the van jump in, start the car, drive around the blocks to get to her house. Knock on the door and VOILA... my son is answering her door! Relief swept over my body, my kids were all complaining, " What took you so long?" and stuff like, " FINALLY MOM!"
So the time was 3:45 and the girls had achievement days (a program in our church for girls that are 8 - 11 years old) at 4pm. So we had a few minutes to spare. I get home drop of the girls and then Thomas starts complaining because he didn't want to go back to the school for practice. Of which I've missed a lot of today. (Oops-- luckily the other coach was there and taking over)
I run over to my neighbors house and ask if he would hang with the boys for a little while. Ethan was asleep and so we laid him on the bed and covered him up. He went right back to sleep. And Thomas would come over in a few after he changed. So thanks to my neighbor I felt like I had control over the afternoon again.
Definitely not an hour I want to repeat anytime soon. So I must have just missed my kids walking to their aunt's house but I didn't think to look that way, and went the other way instead.
So note to self. ALWAYS CHECK FOR MY KIDS WALKING BEFORE I ASSUME THEY ARE STILL WAITING AT THE SCHOOL.
The kids then had the nerve to tell their dad that I MADE them walk in this COLD weather. Geesh.... I need to go to bed!! But I won't get there for a little longer.

New Adventures
Don't ask. Okay I'll answer anyways. I've finally found an outlet of sorts and a way to kind of reconnect to the "life of sports" I once had. And a time in my life where I can develop some of my talents more fully.
Okay so in case you haven't heard, I've VOLUNTEERED to be the head volleyball coach at the school my kids attend. Remember it's called Freedom Academy. Well this team consists of 7th and 8th grade boys and girls.
The long and short of it all.... last week we held tryouts. Wasn't quite sure what to do but I had lots of help and support from some of the faculty that have been coaches before but couldn't do it this year.
Day 1 : There were 39 kids that showed up, and they were either in 7th or 8th grade. Lots of boys and girls, and some of the kids really wanted to make the team, but just have fully developed the skills necessary yet, like SERVING. These poor little kids look so fragile that I was afraid they would break. But they really had some heart, so I hope that they practice throughout this year and try out again next year for those that are in 7th grade this year. It was so NOISY. But with the magic power of a whistle, I was able to quickly gain control over these kids. It feels GREAT!! I know I'm lame, but I really am enjoying this.
Day 2: We dropped to 32 kids, and I had a few faculty members help for the first half hour and then I was on my own. YIKES... It was kind of scary, but exciting at the same time.
Day 3: We were up to 33 kids. By this day I had narrowed down my list of choices and had grade reports run on them and discussed the choices and options with a few of the teachers. They gave suggestions, and I really liked their advice. Because they really know these kids more then I do since they have them in class nearly every day. We also announced the TEAM at the conclusion of the practice.
Day 4: First day of practice with just the team which consisted of 14 players. Four kids weren't able to make it that day, because of prior commitments, and that was fine, they let me know.
Day 5: Monday the 20th of September I show up for practice to have one of my supposed players waiting to greet me and tell me that she couldn't be on the team. She had too many other things that she was committed to before the team. She quit. WHAT??!! Are you kidding me, why did you try out then. And I was informed that one of my 7th grade boys quit as well. Turns out he only tried out because his "girlfriend" was trying out and since she didn't make it, and practicing everyday was too much for him ... he threw in the towel as well. So now I'm down to 12 players.
Day 6: Tuesday the 21st of September -- was a great day and I can already see lots of improvement in the team. There are a few people however that I wish were a little more "into" the game. Maybe it'll happen with time. But I'm not counting on it. I know it sounds pretty full of doubt, huh?
The other great thing... I'm coming home in the evening and I'm BUSHED!! I'm so tired and can't stay awake ... it's really getting me worked out too, and I'm starting to lose some of this excess weight I've been meaning to get rid of, but for whatever reason I haven't.
And to end this entry I'd like to post a collage of a recent photo shoot that I did, and I had so much fun during the shoot, and then afterward playing with the photos I captured.

B
- Best Friends: It’ll cost you!!

- First thoughts waking up: I just want to SLEEP some MORE!!!

Because I don't know what else I want to do.....
1. Go to my documents/pictures.
2. Go to my 6th file folder.
3. Go to my 6th picture.
4. Blog about it.
5. Tag 6 people to do the same
So this was taken back in April of 2007 right after I got my first digital camera. This is of my oldest son, and his "blankie" because he is a blankie baby. He's starting to phase out of needing this everywhere, but please, oh please I never thought I'd have a boy that was so completely hooked onto this blanket. I love this little boy. (Along with all my other kids)
So I now tag : Alexes C, Amy M, Lorie M, Amy R, and Aja F. To do this as well. Have fun.

Want to know about us..... ??
1. How long have you been together?
We’ve been married for a little over 10 ½ years. (June 24, 1998)
2. How long did you know each other before you started dating?
We were in the same church ward (congregation) up at Ricks College for the 97-98 school year. August – December we didn’t really interact at all, but then in January of 98 we were put into the same Family Home Evening group (Thanks Nahir) and when we started doing the FHE’s for the semester we started the “flirting”.
3. Who asked who out?
I don’t know that we ever really went on a date. I mentioned after a FHE that I needed to walk to the grocery store to go buy some groceries and he offered to take me in his “CAR”. So I accepted and it was a mutual togetherness after that.
4. How old are each of you?
Chris is 34 until May, I’m 30 until April.
5. Whose siblings do you see the most?
We see his siblings more, since they all live close by and here in Utah. Mine mostly live in California now with one sister and her family being in Roy, Utah that I try and see every couple of months.
6. Do you have children together?
We have 5. 3 girls, and 2 boys – and yes it was in that order too.
7. What about pets?
We have 1 dog named Amber she’s a german shephard mix, we also have a gray Tabi Cat named Phoebe.
8. Did you go to the same school?
We did not go to the same school –well not until College. We both attended Ricks College (back in the day when it was called Ricks, now it’s called BYU-Idaho)
9. Are you from the same town?
That would have been FUN!!! But no, we didn’t meet until we were in college.
10. Who is the smartest?
I would say, he is most of the time, but there is stuff that has to do with the “kids” and the house that I am smarter about. So maybe it could be a toss up. Just Depends.
11. Who is the most sensitive?
Are you kidding, of course, it’s ME!!! 12. Where do you eat out most as a couple?Whatever we’re craving at the moment, but we like doing Chinese or Mexican mostly. But we both LOVE SUBWAY.
13. Where is the farthest place you have traveled as a couple?
This last summer we drove across the county to West Virginia. He’s been there plenty of times, for me it was a first.
14. Who has the craziest exes?
I would have to say Me. Because I don’t know that he really dated much. But then again, I don’t know that they were really crazy as they were just not for me. (Just as Alexes said)
15. Who has the worst temper?
I think we both have tempers but my temper is more well known around our house. (something to work on)
16. Who does most of the cooking?
I feel like I usually do most of it, but Chris does help out on the weekends. And sometimes during the week.
17. Who is more social?
I AM!! SURPRISE SURPRISE!!!
18. Who is the neat freak?
Is there a way to take lessons on being OCD with cleaning. I think I need to take a few lessons.
19. Who is more stubborn?
I of course, will say that he is, but I’m sure that he’d say I am. But I think he REALLY is.
20. Who hogs the bed?
We have a King SIZED bed, but he still takes up all the room and then some.
21. Who wakes up earlier?
That’s a toss up, we usually are waking up within a few minutes of each other. But I also get up during the night with any kids that need attention then. So what if I sleep a little longer --- BIG DEAL.
22. Where was your first date?
The first time he offered to take me grocery shopping we went to Milhollow (a frozen yogurt place in Rexburg) and we came back home to my place that night and stood under the tree for a while and had our first kiss. After contemplating it for a WHILE!!
23. Who has the bigger family?
I do. There are 8 kids counting me, and he has 7 kids including him.
24. Do you get flowers often?
Not really, but we bought rose bushes when we first moved in, so I get all the roses I want when they start blooming. And that’s FANTASTIC for me.
25. How do you spend the holidays?
Usually low key with just our little family and then end up at his parents for dinner or dessert.
26. Who is more jealous?
Neither
27. Who does the laundry?
I do more of the laundry, but he claims he does more laundry than any other man ever does. Because occasionally (or more so) he does his own laundry. Although lately I’ve been doing more for him. He doesn’t fold or put anything that isn’t his away ever.
28. Who is better with the computer?
Me of course. I love figuring out things, and “fixing” it with what I can do.
29. Who drives when you are together?
He does. He’s a bad back seat driver so I don’t like to unless I HAVE to. (While he’s in the car)
30.Is your family still growing?
Well of course it’s still growing. They still live with us don’t they. (yeah, yeah, I know you wanted to hear if we planned on having more – for now we’re done, but who know’s about the future yet? )

Ready or Not -- A chance to get to know me.
So here's a few questions that will help you get to know me a little better.
1. How long have you lived in Utah? Where else have you lived?
Well, my husband and I moved to Utah back in July
2. What would you consider the BEST part of Motherhood? What is the Worst part of Motherhood?
Best part of motherhood would have to be watching my
Now the worst part would be a toss up between the LAUNDRY, DISHES etc.... or you could say that I worry for my kids, I worry whether I'm teaching them enough of the right and good things to help keep them safe when situations arise. I worry for their safety when they are away from me. I know that I worry a lot, but how can I help it? Doesn't it just mean you really love your kids. I also hate having to try and "discipline" and having it fit the crime. (I'm not very creative)
3. What is the hardest thing you've ever had to do?
This might not sound like something really hard, and now it isn't but at one time -- it was a difficult experience. My first Christmas away from my family also happened to be the first Christmas I spent with my husband and his family. It was hard for me because I hadn't ever been away from them for Christmas, and I was only 20. I guess I didn't realize how much I felt a connection to them, despite how relationships were -- they were all I knew up till I got married, and adjusting to being married was hard enough. But it was just a "stepping stone" into my relationship with my husband. He helped me get through it, and just loved me despite how "emotional" I was at that time. Oh yeah, did I mention that I was also pregnant with my first at the same time. Well, I was and the pregnancy wasn't easy either. I was sick for 3 months straight, throwing up all the time, (probably should have been on an IV a few times for dehydration, but it never happened) So being pregnant away from my "childhood" family and not knowing his family very well yet made things really hard. But since then, things have changed. I haven't spent very many Christmas's with my family since I've been married but I have grown to know and love my in laws. And it's always fun to meet up with them and be crazy.
4. What is your favorite hobby or past time?
Well depending on when you would have asked this of me the answers would vary. Back before I had kids, playing sports and "working out" at the gym were some of my favorite things to do. But since I've had kids, that isn't very practical anymore (although I still love it) so now, I really enjoy reading, that has to be my favorite hobby. It's relaxing, and gives me a chance to escape reality for just a moment. Of course, it has to be a good book, otherwise .... well I don't finish the book, and on to a new one I go. But I also have an interest in digital scrapbooking, and am anxiously awaiting a new computer (like in a dozen years) and new software. But with kids I don't seem to have enough time as it is, maybe when they get older.
5. Who has inspired you the most in your life?
I don't know that I can really narrow that down to one thing, or person. I grew up in a town where I had "standards" that were different from most of the others around, so I didn't do too many things with them. But I did have some great church leaders that helped inspire me. They took time to show interest, and let me know that they cared. But better yet, when I went on to college and met my room mates from my first year, and got to know them, and find out their struggles, and their joys --- they became my best friends and really helped inspire me to do better and achieve more. And since I was at Ricks College (now called BYU Idaho) when President David A Bednar was called to be the President -- he had a way with words and making me feel hopeful, and that with God all things could be possible. So I savor his words even more now, because he is one of the Apostles for the Lord Jesus Christ here on earth.
Do you want to play along and get interviewed too?
Here's the directions:

Friday Randomness --- 16 THINGS
1. I really do enjoy shoveling SNOW!! Except when it starts snowing right when you are finishing up. It really is a nice workout.
2. I've been married for 10 and half years on Christmas Eve.
3. I enjoy making birthday cakes. And being really creative.
4. I love to play sports. Especially BASKETBALL!! I haven't done anything like that for almost a year now, I need to get started again.
5. I'm so a cat person. Even though I have a dog. Because once the dog is gone, after that we'll just have cats. The dog is seriously like having another person in the family, and more work to take care of her, than it is to tell my kids to go to bed ( which is not an EASY task by any means).
6. My favorite color is blue, always has been and probably always will be. Although I do like a lot of colors.
7. I love to READ!! But lately haven't had any time to read anything, need to change that too. Time for a trip to the library.
8. I hate HOMEWORK!! I have three school kids and they all bring homework home everyday (just about -- sometimes they'll get lucky and not have anything) but my kids hate doing their homework, so then I have to "encourage" and "persuade" oh heck -- I'm NAGGING, and SCREAMING to get them to do it after asking kindly for the 100th time. Plus I feel it gives them no time to do the "chores around the house" that I want them to do, and they are always getting to bed late because of homework. AGHHH..... okay enough of the complaining (for now).
9. I don't really like driving!! I do it, because I have to, but if my husband is in the car I'd much rather prefer him to do the driving.
10. I have 7 siblings in my childhood family. I'm the oldest, and have the most kids on either side of my husband or my families.
11. My birthday is in April -- I've always liked the month, and wish it could be APRIL ALL THE TIME. Well almost all the time.
12. I grew up in California near DEATH VALLEY in a little town called TRONA. And don't care to ever live in California again, to live at least. So needless to say, I HATE the HEAT!!!
13. Some of my interests include : learning new skills, baking, blogging, staying in touch with friends (someday after my kids grow up I'll have a life again). ** Working out when I find some time. Playing the piano.
14. Things I'd like to learn more: digital scrapbooking, photography, sewing, and getting ORGANIZED, how to get kids to do chores without the whining. Learning to play the piano better -- I'm such a NOVICE.
15. I'm very forgetful. Mostly with where I put things at. My cell phone, address book, keys, the remote, someone's phone number. Thus it goes back to being ORGANIZED. How is it that I missed that lesson as a youngster??? Oh yeah, I probably never learned it as a youngster.
16. Betcha couldn't tell but I'm NOT perfect. But I do enjoy this blog, because it releases a lot of tension when I need it, and I can keep track of all my thoughts, and happenings so that when my kids ask questions later I can ask them.
If you want to do this then go for it!!! I don't know who really reads my blog so I don't know who to tag. If you don't have a blog then email me, with your response.

Deck the Halls .....
Here goes:
Egg nog or hot chocolate? Hot chocolate. I've never even tried Eggnog. Don't really want to either. Sounds like it would taste bad.
Does Santa wrap presents or set them under the tree? My parents wrapped everything and labeled it from Santa when I was a kid. So when I came to know about Santa -- I was highly depressed because everything was still labeled from Santa -- I didn't like it. So in our family we wrap the presents that our from DH and Me and then pick one gift for each child to be the Santa gift. And it isn't wrapped. We want them to think that everything already pretty much comes from MOM & DAD instead of Santa. So that's what we do.
Colored lights on tree or white? Depends on the decorating scheme for the year. I've done colored and White. But a few years ago, the kids really wanted to use our colored lights and we've just done it now for 2 - 3 years. I think it adds more color to the room.
When do you put your decorations up? Right around Thanksgiving or as close to it as possible.
What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? What do you mean that's all I eat around the holidays! But I guess Deviled Eggs would be my favorite anytime of year dish.
Favorite holiday memory as a child: This is sad, but I can't remember anything really. Although I do remember the Christmas's when my grandparents would come by with the gifts for us that they just put inside of big black trash bags. So when we thought we were done opening presents they came over and we got to open more. As a kid that was always GREAT. There wasn't just one gift there was like 5 - 10 different gifts inside each plastic bag and there were 8 KIDS!!
When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? I think about the time I turned 10 - 12 my Dad had me go with him on a "field trip" and he told me about it, and I got to help that year and be Santa -- so when all the other kids had gone to bed, I got to stay up and help place the Christmas Presents for everyone else. I was pretty sad, when I was putting out the presents but not one of them were for me. So I was surprised when I woke up the next morning and there were a few other gifts placed out that weren't there when I went to bed.
Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? As kids we never did. And DH and I haven't figured out if we want to do it with our kids or not. I guess we better figure it out soon, because the oldest is already 9 1/2.
Snow! Love it or dread it? I've always loved having a WHITE CHRISTMAS!! Meaning that you wake up to fresh fallen snow. Not the snow that's been there for weeks and freezing over the driveway making it slippery to drive on. But I too, don't like driving in the stuff. I'm more used to it now that I've been driving in it for 10 years but it never snowed where I grew up as a kid.
Can you ice skate? No -- kind of scared to.
Do you remember your favorite gift? Well my favorite one living at home with my parents was my school jacket and class ring (didn't happen until high school) I also loved the bedding set that they bought me which I now use for my kids. The comforter was so cozy soft and cool. And it was BLUE!! Since I've been married -- my husband bought me a rocking chair when we found out we were expecting Sunshine. So that was Christmas 2001.
What's the most important thing about the holidays for you? Spending time with family and making memories. When I was a kid and even now, of course, we'd always watch the "New MOVIES" we got on Christmas Day and it was always fun. I love getting together with extended family and playing games, and getting some adult time in. We have had one Christmas where my family was all together for the first time since I moved out and that was pretty fun. My brother dressed up as Santa and the kids loved it. I even sat on Santa's lap that year. And so did my GRANDMA!! That was really fun. I don't know when we'll all be together again for Christmas but I'm sure it will be a MEMORY in the making.
What is your favorite holiday dessert? I always make Homemade vanilla ice cream and have it with either hot warm brownies that I've made or Hot Apple Pie. Although I did break my hand when Sunshine was born (Christmas 2002) Because I was trying to make ice cream. I was actually trying to get my sugar jar down loaded with Sugar and it was heavier then I thought and my hand was smashed between that and the cupboard that someone had just opened. "WE HAVE TALL CEILINGS" Like 12 ft. So I have pretty tall cupboards. I went the whole weekend not knowing that I had broken my hand. We also blessed Sunshine that weekend at church and I had a hard time holding her at 3 - 4 months old. It was my right hand too.
What is your favorite tradition? Driving around looking at Christmas Lights. Was as a kid, and is now.
Which do you prefer, giving or receiving? It used to be getting, but I now, like to come up with the best ideas to give to those around me. And seeing how much they light up from it.
What is your favorite Christmas Song? I can't name a favorite. There are so many good ones. But the most recent one I really like is "Christmas Shoes" -- don't remember the artist. But any of the songs that help me feel the "spirit" of Christmas I totally LOVE.
Candy canes! Yuck or yum? Peppermint - not really but the other ones aren't too bad.
Ever recycled a Christmas present? No

Tags are getting fun!!
I'm starting to love these tags, because I'm learning stuff about myself that I didn't really KNOW before -- if you know what I mean??? (I'm still not sure I do.)
So I got tagged by MERRIANNE to name 7 things about me. So let's see where I go with this one, since I can be known to be very STRANGE and WEIRD at times, but I think these things will be pretty down to earth, normal and what many might just call AVERAGE..
1. I LOVE ALL THINGS PEANUT BUTTER!!!! And what's better ??? All things that are CHOCOLATE and PEANUT BUTTER!!! Can't go wrong there.
2. I played these sports in high school: VOLLEYBALL, BASKETBALL, and SOFTBALL and I was even a cheerleader in there too!! My favorite being Basketball. And for my last birthday I just got my very first BASKETBALL -- that's right my very own ever since I was born. I've always played at school but always just used their basketballs.
4. I've basically self taught myself everything I know on the piano, and am working on learning to play FUR ELISE!!! I love that SONG!!!
5. I really like all the OLD SCHOOL songs, much like the ones currently on my blog. Total huge fan of all the "JOCK JAMS" out there. If you went to my high school, you know what I'm talking about. (I don't even know if anyone from my high school reads my blog)
6. I like to pick things up with my TOES!!! (I can't quite tie a shoe, but I can pick up clothes, or pens or things like that when I'm too lazy to bend over to get it.)
7. If you ever want to give me something, you can bet I'll be okay with "smelly lotion, bubble bath, candles -- or CHOCOLATE/PEANUT BUTTER creations. "
So I'm now going to tag the following people ---

Marrianne --- as in TWO REDHEADED BEAUTIES!!!

Getting to Know Me A little Better .....

Quit laughing already, this is what he got me for our anniversary because we needed a new bed set - our other one was OLD, and decrepit. And we bought the green curtains a few years ago, and they matched our other set, so until we can afford to get new ones those will just have to do -- even if they don't match.15. 6 quirks
1. I don't always make the bed during the day, and I can't just go to sleep in it unless I actually make it --even if it's just so I can get into bed. I'm getting better at just making it first thing in the morning.
2. When I sleep on my bed, I always like to let my toes hang off the end of the bed, because I'm a tummy sleeper. I don't know why I do it, but it feels relaxing and comfortable.
3. I am a jean's and t-shirt kind of girl and don't keep up on the latest fashions. I'm cheap what can I say.
4. Sometimes I'm lucky enough to get away without brushing my hair if I'm in a huge hurry. Just like showers are optional. :D -- Sometimes I just don't get enough time.
5. I confess, I drink from the jug. Milk, juice, water --- usually it's the last little bit though. And don't worry I don't offer those jugs to the guests that come over. You're safe for now.
6. I don't like talking on the phone to people I don't know really well. I just really like to see body language and facial expressions to know if I'm really "accepted" or not. Crazy, I know!!
So now I think I'm going to tag 6 people : Kari, Amy, Shantil, Lorie, Christina
